I had the good fortune to spend the first few months of 2015 in Melbourne, Florida. It has been quite different from my normal travel to big cities, but it has been wonderful! Melbourne is a city full of nature, beaches, and I have definitely gotten my fill of antiquing (highlighted in upcoming posts).
C. Madeleines is a luxury vintage consignment shop in North Miami, and is my heaven! They have all of the tools to let your inner drag queen loose, and boy did I. I love eccentric clothes and accessories…to me, the bigger, the better! Needless to say, I tried on feathers and fur galore…I don’t usually post photos of myself on this blog, but these pieces come to life on a body, and I was happy to oblige. 😉
A quick overnighter to South Beach, Miami, which reminded me of my time living in Mexico. I was speaking Spanish on Ocean Drive and loving the “see and be seen” mentality, which of course makes for great people watching!
I am an artist by trade & education, and am an avid connoisseur of art and craft, especially weaving and handcrafted works. When I found the Modern Twist exhibition right down the street from where I am living, it was a no brainer, and did not disappoint.
The Dali Museum is a museum dedicated to the works of famous Surrealist artist Salvador Dali. I had visited this museum once before as a teenager, and still nothing compares to seeing them in person…the scale of some of the paintings is lost when viewing online or in books.
Newburyport is a seaside town about an hour north of Boston, with beautiful old homes, and a thriving downtown full of independent businesses, and a bustling organic and foodie scene. If you are in the area, please go to Colby Farm; they have a great farmstand!
Being away from Boston made me realize how great a city it is! It’s a fairly small city which makes it very manageable…I’ve been walking almost everywhere, and there is almost no place within the city that can’t be reached in under one hour’s walk. After living in southern China, the factory capital of the world, I also appreciate a blue sky more & more. The first day I was back, I kept exclaiming, “Wow, would you look at the sky today?!?! It’s like a painting!” A friend is in town visiting, so i played tour guide today.
